In Vitro Evaluation Of Antacid Experiment Lab

 In Vitro Evaluation Of Antacid

The Introduction

Antacids are chemical substances which on ingestion act by ,  neutralization of  gastric juice to form a neutral salt, it provides symptomatic  relief

The Procedure

To initiate the physiological conditions in the stomach, artificial gastric juice is
used

 (Artificial Gastric Juice( A.G.J

     Sodium chloride        2gm

   HCl                            7 ml
D.W.          to             1000ml

Place 150 ml of the (AGF) in a 250 ml beaker
Arrange the pH meter so that the electrode are in the solution

Fill a 50 ml burrette with (AGF) and position it so that solution may be added to the beaker as desired

Record the initial pH of the juice

Add the antacid and stir the solution (3 gm of citrogram and 15 ml of Maalox)

Record the pH at 2 min. intervals

To stimulate stomach condition, add 2ml of fresh juice from the burette each 2 min. and at the end of each 10 min., withdraw 10 ml from the beaker using a pipette and discord

Continue recording until the pH gas reached to its maximum and then dropped
 significantly, record for 50 min

Draw a curve by plotting pH versus time for both antacids on the same plot and
compare
